Jacqueline Murphy, Director of Subsidiary Rights
Jacqueline Murphy has been working in the publishing industry for almost twenty years. She grew up in Scotland and graduated from Edinburgh University with a law degree and no desire to be a lawyer. Like so many Scots before her, she hightailed it to New York. She began her publishing career as a book club editorial assistant at Newbridge Book Clubs and has since worked in marketing, editorial, audio publishing and in domestic and foreign rights. Jacqueline has experience at a range of publishing houses from Scholastic to Walker (now an imprint of Bloomsbury) to National Geographic Books to Harcourt and Harper Collins. Most recently, she worked as Director of Subsidiary Rights for Harcourt for five years and then as Executive Audio Editor at Harper Media (Harper Collins) for four years. She has worked on narrative nonfiction, self help, biography, literary fiction, mysteries and a range of juvenile/YA titles.
Jacqueline believes that a Rights Director is first and foremost an advocate for all the titles on the list but nothing makes her happier than securing a multitude of foreign sales for clients or licensing audio/electronic/serial or reprint rights domestically.
When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, a dog, two cats and a rabbit.
